LOS ANGELES, CA

 LAX

 TERMINAL 1

2015 - 2018

In conjunction with Southwest Airline’s expansion of Terminal 1, Westfield collaborated with Southwest and Los Angeles World Airports to plan a new passenger experience in a tired and dated building. A relocated TSA checkpoint, new restroom locations allowed Westfield to double the amount of concessions which had been overwhelmed by the amount of passengers. The design took inspiration from Westfield’s vision of a Bento Box which captures LA’s east meets west dynamic and Southwest’s fun loving, surprise and delight spirit. The interior architecture, dining areas and kiosks capture elements of Japanese origami while unexpected pops of color, patterns, lighting elements and tenant storefront elements provide whimsical moments in the passengers experience. Feature restaurants and bars are located in atrium like spaces to create memorable special places featuring sculptural elements, unique lighting fixtures and fun design features that passengers want to photograph and share.
